Mounds View City Council "� i't� September 26, 1983 <br />Regular Meeting'y�'p" -Page Three <br />---------------------------�k_-_ .d_._f._ <br />the regular meeting at 7:59 PM. <br />Mayor McCarty closed the regular meeting and opened <br />the second public hearing at 7:59 PM. <br />Finance Director Brager made a presentation of the <br />1984 General and Other Funds budget. <br />Bob Schmidt, 8118 Gdgewood Drive, asked if the State <br />could possibly be collecting more revenue than <br />anticipated, and if so, if that would increase the <br />State's payment to the City. <br />Finance Director Brager replied that the Governer <br />has announced he will seek an increase in government <br />aid to the Cities, and that it could amount to <br />$9,200 for Mounds View, but that action would not <br />be taken until March 1984 at the earliest. <br />Mr. Schmidt questioned if the $38,000 recovered <br />from the Metro Sewer Department from overbillings <br />was still in the sewer fund. Finance Director <br />Brager replied it was, and it will be used as a <br />buffer for repairs. <br />Clerk/Administrator Pauley pointed out that they <br />still cannot guarantee the States budget, and that <br />many things are being done to balance the budget. <br />An unidentified resident asked if the long term <br />forecast the City prepares goes to the State. <br />Finance Director Brager replied that it does not, <br />as the City is not required to submit it. <br />Neil Loeding, 5046 Long View Drive, questioned the <br />increase in the levy for 1984 over 1983. rinance <br />Director Brager clarified it for him. <br />An unidentified resident stated he had heard many <br />reasons why the budget should be increased, but <br />stated that a 19 percent increase in taxes is not <br />going to go over with the residents, and recommended <br />the Council take another look at the budget. <br />Bob Waste stated he had called the assessor earlier <br />in the day and was told his store property would have <br />an approximate 40 percent increase, plus the 20 percent <br />from the City, and would have an approximate $32,000 <br />increase in assessed value alone. <br />Mayor McCarty stated he can understand what the mer- <br />chants are facing, and that was why he had contacted <br />some of them and asked them to attend the hearing <br />for their input. <br />6B.
