MINUTES
• PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS FOR COUNTY ROAD J
The meeting was held at the Mounds View City Hall at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday,
August 30. Those in attendance were Duane McCarty, Mayor, City of Mounds
View, Dick Wedell, Mayor, City of Shoreview, Jim Duevel and Ron Clark, Council -
members, City of Blaine, Gary Dickson, City Manager, Shoreview, John Theo,
Public Works Supt., Circle Pines. Invitations were extended to representatives
of Spring Lake Park and Lino Lakes. Also present was Bill Wagner of the
New Brighton Bulletin.
Mayor McCarty expressed his concern at the condition of County Road J. The
City of Shoreview shares these concerns, experiencing a tremendous growth
in the north end of our community. There is increased use of the truck
terminals and development along County Road J in all the communities, plus
the complications produced by the location of the Blaine -Anoka Co. Airport.
All these constitute an increase in traffic patterns and use made of the road.
It was suggested that in order to avoid the many problems that are incumbant
on all of the neighboring communities to County Road J, particularly to avoid
a piecemeal development approach, that the cities unite to obtain cooperation
from Ramsey Co. and Anoka Co. to start the planning process. It is hoped
that in this way that we will anticipate the needs rather than reacting to them.
There was a consensus among all of those present regarding the need and
desire to bring all Councils together in order to get the counties acting
on behalf of the communities.
It was also the general agreement of the representatives present that the
issue should be taken back to the representative Councils in order to solicit
support and with their general concurrence, schedule another joint meeting
