Anderson, Dir c r1811A Parks, Recreation an r y DATE: May 31, 1984 RE: Random Park Playground Equipment The Mounds View Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed six dif- ferent proposals for playground equipment at Random Park at their regularly scheduled May 24, 1984 Park Commission meeting. The six proposals were submitted by local playground manufacturing firms ranging from a low of $6,845.00 from Builders Engineering Company to a high of $10,800.00 from Hamele and Associates. Prior to making their final decision, the Parks and Recreation Commission held a tour on Saturday, May 12; at which time they visited examples of each of the playground firms that submitted proposals. After the sites were visited, staff was directed to develop specifications, (copy attached) based on what the Commis- sion felt would best meet the needs of the Random Park neighbor- hood. The bid proposal from Bob Klein and Associates was selected based on a total bid of $8,107.00, including a 4 deck system, L tube slide, tornado slide, tire swing, cargo net climber, curved climber; chinning bar, and swinging bridge as per the attached diagram. The Commission selected the Miracle Equipment after reviewing the other 5 proposals and first-hand observation of the equipment in the City of Shoreview. The City has budgeted $8,000.00 for the purchase of playground equipment for Random Park in 1984. The additional $107.00 for the playground equip- ment could be covered through the City's regular park fund so that the project could be completed within budget. In addition, I have attached a letter that the Commission has forwarded to 140 residents to receive their input on the equip- ment on Saturday, June 2. In addition to reviewing the equip- ment, the Commission will discuss construction timelines, as well as review the master plan for Random Park. Staff would like to propose at this time that authorization be given to staff to purchase the equipment as outlined from Bob Klein and Associates in the amount of $8,107.00 pending general approval from the Random Park residents. If staff was authorized to purchase the equipment as outlined, an August 1, 1984 deadline would be set for final installation. RECOMMENDATION: Authorize staff to purchase a creative play en- vironment for Random Park from Bob Klein and Associates for the bid price $8tl07.00. BKA/sll U
