MEMO TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNC
FROM: CLERK -ADMINISTRATOR
DATE: MAY 20, 1985
SUBJECT: DISPATCH OF CITY EQUIPMENT AND PERSONNEL IN
EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
Attached please find a letter and sample resolution from the
City of St. Louis Park regarding the dispatching of
municipal equipment and personnel to requesting cities
during emergency situations.
Although the City of Mounds View does have a mutual aid
agreement with many cities in Ramsey County for dispatch of
equipment during emergency situations by the City's Civil
Defense Director, the City has no policy regarding the
dispatch of equipment and personnel to other cities when
similar circumstances exist. Such a policy statement in the
form of a resolution such as that provided by the City of
St. Louis Park would seem to be both reasonable and
appropriate in order that we might be able to respond to
other cities' requests for emergency assistance in a timely
fashion when Council Meetings cannot be called in a manner
that would allow our prompt response to the request.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Council authorize
preparation of a resolution for adoption by consent agenda
at your next regular meeting authorizing the dispatch and
use of city equipment and personnel by the Clerk -Administra-
tor or his designee in emergency situations.
DFP/mjs
Attachment:
