GATEWAY I TO THE NORTH
OEeAATM[NT(,I -'AY.;.
•[fa[ ATIfTN /, MIS 1 /T Y, Ii .
September 26. 1985
Mr. Jim Tolaaa, Acting Director
Environmental Engineering Services
3377 No. Rice Street
St. Foul, MN 55112
Dear Mr. Tolaas:
vlfU iiOUi►aS cIA I
J AAMSf. COUNTY MINNESOTA
240I NWNw AT 10
MOUNOSvISM. MIN" ►SIt7
1114 2MS
This is ;ust a short note to follow up on our phone conversation last week
regarding the City of Mounds View's Interest In utilizing the Ramsey County
portable aeration system for Spring Lake. According to the information the
City has been able to glean, Spring Lake was last stocked In 1983 by the DNR.
The City residents have received great benefit from Spring Lake as a recres-
tlonal reso•irce from both a fishing, aquatics, and boating perspective. To
ensure that the fishing is sainrained at its current high level, the City
would like to formally request use of the aeration equipment and continued
monitoting of the oxygen levels of the lake during the 1985-86 winter sesstn.
Spring Lake last froze not In the winter of 1962, and based on recant history,
it appears that tle take freezes out every third year, which vouid placa 1985-
86 as a potential freeze -out year. The fish population is currently grod,
with Sane fish in the 1 - 2 pound range. I understand from our phone conver-
sation, thr.t the portab:a aeration egatpnenr that was used at Silver lake in
North St. Paul In prior years would he available for the Clty's use as Silver
Lake will be receiving a permanent aeration system.
You lnd:catad C:::l:.g our phone conversation that you do nor envision any pro-
blems with the county aeration equ.pment being available and the, the County
would provide this service at no cost to our residents. The only problem that
You indicated was Ph,ther or not the proper electrical connections were avail-
able at the well house. You stated that you would see that the electrical
connections were brought up to code at County expense.
