n MEMO TO: Clerk -Administrator and City Council
FROM: Director of Public Works/Community Development
Police Chief
DATE: July 26, 1985
SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CONTROL
As you may recall, the City Council directed staff to analyze four
street intersections in the City of Mounds View and determine if
additional stop signs are needed. These intersections are as
follows:
1. Quincy Street and Oakwood Drive
2. Jackson Drive and Bronson Drive
3. Spring Lake Road and Ardan Avenue
4. Eastwood Road and Ardan Avenue
The Police Department conducted radar speed traps on the streets
near these intersections and reviewed the accident records for
these intersections. The speed traps did not turn up a large
percentage of speeders. The accident reports for these intersec-
tions indicated that there were two accidents at the intersection
of Jackson Drive and Bronson Drive this year and no accidents at
the other intersections. This information is from the 1984 and
1985 traffic accident data.
The Public Works Department conducted traffic counts on these
streets. A traffic count consists of placing a traffic counter at
the intersection for a two day period. The counter is read at the
beginning of the counting period, after 24 hours and then after 48
hours.
On Wednesday, June 12, 1985, a
Quincy Street at Oakwood Drive.
2,097 vehicles.
traffic counter was placed on
The A.D.T. for this location was
On Monday, June 10, 1985, a traffic counter was placed on Bronson
Drive west of Jackson Drive and at the same time another traffic
counter was placed on Jackson Drive north of Bronson Drive. The
traffic counter located on Bronson Drive west of Jackson Drive
counted 820 vehicles and the traffic counter on Jackson Drive north
of Bronson Drive counted 1,626 vehicles.
on Wednesday, July 10, 1985, a traffic counter was placed on Spring
Lake Road north of Ardan Avenue. The counter recorded 1,303
A.D.T. Since Spring Lake Road is a county road, they have traffic
counts from past years. The traffic counts for Spring Lake Road
from 1973 to 1983 are as follows:
