Clerk -Administrator and City Council
July 26, 1985
Page Three of Four
3) Remove the stop sigs from Oakwood Drive and place
them so that they stop traffic on Quincy Street and
allow traffic on Oakwood Drive to pass through.
Discussion and Recommendation:
After reviewing the criteria for installing a stop sign, the
only reason for installing a stop sign at this point is
because it is near a park that children use. A reason for
not installing a stop sign at this intersection is because
there is a very short distance between existing stop signs.
Unless there is additional justification presented for
providing a stop sign at this intersection, I recommend
Possible Solution #1 which is to do nothing.
2. JACKSON DRIVE AND BRONSON DRIVE
Possible Solutions:
1. Do nothing.
2. Install a four-way stop.
j 3. Stop the traffic on Bronson Drive instead of
on Jackson Drive and let the traffic on
Jackson Drive pass through.
Discussion and Recommendation:
After reviewing the criteria for installing a stop sign, the
reasons for installing a stop sign at this intersection
could be the long distance between exiting stops signs and
that the City desires to reduce traffic in this residential
area. I would like to say that two accidents in one year is
not considered a high accident rate by the Police Depart-
ment. A reason for not installing a stop sign on Bronson
Drive at Jackson Drive is that the distance between the two
existing stop signs is about one-half mile which is not any
longer than the long streets the City has in the north-
western area of Mounds View. I would also like to point out
that when a stop sign is installed, the traffic noise
usually increases in the area due to accelerating cars.
Without additional justification, installation of a stop
sign at this intersection is a toss up. If the City decides
to install a stop sign on Bronson Drive at Jackson Drive, I
recommend Possible Solution #2 which is to install a
four-way stop.
