The bids were opened on DeLONIJEi i1. i985 a^d the prices quoted are available to other political entities. it is the noinion of other Police Administrators and car dealers that 1 contacted, that the prices quoted could not be improved on by Mounds View conducting our own bid process. Listed below are the lowest :heyrolet, Ford and Chrysler Lorporation bids. Included in the bids are selected options. Coon Rapids Chrysler - 110,778.00 Polar Chevrolet - SIJ,988.UO Tonka Ford - $11,401.UU Althnuah Chrysler Corporation(Plymouth Fury) is the lowest bid, I believe the following considerations should be mane: 1) Chevrolet has a full frame construction versus unibody construction on the Plymouth 2) Conversion to L.P. gas would cost $100.00 pore per vehicle ,n the Plymouth compared to the Chevrolet 3) the fuel econrmy data supplied by the E.F.A. has the comhined mileage rating of the Chevrolet at 16 MPG versus Plymouth at 13 MPG It is my opinion and the opinion of the City mechanic that the Cnevrolet would he safer for the Officers and cheaper to maintain and operate than the Plymouth. Unless there is an objection from the Council. I plan on changing colors on the Police vehicles from blue to white. It is becomirg more difficult to match the blue from year to year and impossinle to match when we chdnge makes of vehicles White is a standard color and over the years we will maintain unifon,ity and undoubtedly it will be less expensive. RECOMMENDATION: Request City Council to authorize the purchase of two 1986 Chevrolet from Thane Hawkins Polar Chevrolet for the amount of $21,976.00. The 1986 budneted amount for the purchase of new Police vehicles is 524, 00o.00.
