S hrrm Waror and Wetland Managoment Plan
Novemher 14, 1985
Three are some storm sewer actions that n.ed cleaninq
more often because more 4and is deposited in these
pipes. The followinq st"rm sewer section'; nood cloaninq
once ovary year:
a) The storm sewer that starts at 22.71 County Road 11-2
and dischantcs into Lambert Park.
h) The storm sever that starts A the intersection of
Eastwood Road and Woodcrest Drive and discharges
into Wooderest Park.
c) The storm sewer that .Trains the areas north of
Sherwood Road and west of Noudlawn Drive.
When the storm sewer improvement.; arm• completed, deten-
tion ponds and equipment will need periodic cleaning.
Some storm sewers have tree roots growing through the
pipe joints. Staff will inspect the larger pipes and
televise the smaller pipes to determine if the roots
should he sprayed as we do for sanitary sewers so that
the pipe's ability to carry storm water will be maxi-
mized. This work will bo coordinated with the Storm
Sewer Improvement Program and the Sanitary Sewer
Maintenance Program.
2. Storm Sewer Im ov.•m.•nt
a) Non -Structural Improvements
Juhn Johnson's Storm Water Management Plan will work
only if people do not increase the quantity of water
erterinq the storm sewers. There are two ways that
we can increase storm water quantity.
First, ground water can now he used to heat and cool
buildings. For heatino or coolinq, ground water is
pumped thrnunh a heat exchanger and discharged into
the ground where it flows over land until it enters
a storm sewer. Building owners normally discharge
ground water into the storm sewer because
discharging the water into a sanitary sewer is not
allowed and dtsr, harginq water back into the ground
(qround water recharge) is ton expensive. The City
should prohibit the discharge of ground water fused
for heating and cooling buildings) into the storm
sewer system because the storm ,ewer system does not
have adequate capacity.
- 5 -
