Construct the improvements.
Construction of improvements will continue to he
coordinated with construction of MSA designated
streets. The procedure indicated above will be used
for each drainage basin. The Johnson Plan stales
thdt top priority should be given to the Edgewuod
Drive and Ardan Avenue drainage hasins.
The Johnson Plan indicates which storm sewers need
improvement because of inadequate capacity. The
study does not mention that some people think that
ditches with traffic safety prohlems need to be
replaced with st:;rm sewer. The specific ditches are
as tollow4:
West side of Long Lake Road from Scotland Court
to County Road 11-2.
2. North side of Woodcrest Drive from Red Oak Drive
to Silver Lake Road.
By replacing ditches near parks with storm sowers,
as the City has done in Greenfield Park, additional
high land becomes available for recreation.
The point is that when the storm sewer improvements
are completed and they have adequate capacity, tnere
are other reasons for installing the storm sewer.
The main thrust .)f storm sewer improvements and this
report continues to he to provide adequate capacity.
3. Ditch Maintenance
Ditch cleaning is the excavation work necessary to
removo sediment from the ditch so that water flow will
not be Impeded. In most cases, this means excavating
the ditch so that it hay: a constant xlope from an
exictinq storm rower nutlet to an existing srorin sewer
inlet.
The City's ditches are listed in Artachment I1. The
ditches ara numbered banod on their need fnr clear, inq.
A deecriptinn of each ditch is described bulowt
