MERJ TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: CLERK -ADMINISTRATOR
DATE: MARCH 18, 1986
SUBJECT: 1986 SPRING CLEAN UP
Now that we have all survived the Ides of March, our
thoughts turn to Spring and the City's Annual Clean Up Day.
This year staff has developed a proposal for your
consideration that would provide a greater level of service
for our residents, address the issues of landfill abatement
and preservation of our environment and hopefully reduce the
level of subsidy provided by the City.
The specific proposal is as follows:
Date: Saturday, May 10, 1986
Time: 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
Note: The hours have been reduced so that all
materials and equipment may be removed
on that date and prior to landfill cios'_ng
at 3:30 p.m. This also deals with the
"free -loaders" we have had problems with
in the past.
Location: City Hall Public Works Garage Lot
Services: All recyclable material i.e., newspaper,
glass, tires and appliances, as well as
non-compostable yard waste would be
handled by Beerman Services. Rita Docken
will attempt to find haulers) that will
handle used oil, batteries, paints, solvents,
yard chemicals, etc. that cannot be handled
by Beerman.
All non -recyclable materials will be handled
by the hauler we have used successfully for
the past 4 years, i.e., Container Service.
The City will again compact the materials in
30 yard boxes using the City's front-end
loader operated by a Public Works employee.
As in the past, Goodwill Industries will also
have a truck available to take donations.
Beerman Serices will provide labor to assist
with the unloading of vehicles. Collection
of receints and traffic control will be
handled by the City. Hopefully, Council -
members will again volunteer their services
for this purpose.
