C'v ,1!NN N;6 ?M5 AFPER-_SCHOOL ACTiVITI' _PROCKAM - RF.POR'f February 28, 1980 Mounds View Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department staff felt that a need for an after -school activities program for elementary age children may be existing. Therefore, a short survey was established and distributed to the elementary schools including Pinewuod, Red Oak, Sunnyside and Compassion Christian schools. The survey was randomly distributed to five students per class and two classes per grades first through 2ixth. The survey was accom- panied by a self addressed stamped envelope. Of the approximately two hundred surveys distributed, eighty-three were returned, tht3 providing for a very adequate tool for program data composition. Plea ->, refer to the survey data sheet for further reference. Considering the feedback information of the returned surveys, it was determined that an after -school program was definitely a need and an interest. Furthermore, it was determined that a fun and recreational program was re- quested rather than a competitive team program. The program content of the After -School Activities Program was specifically designed with the input re- ceived by the survey in mind. It is the goal of the After -School Activities to provide a well-rounded program of recreational activity opportunities for elementary age school children during the after -school hours. The month of March was chosen because it seems to be a interim month between Winter and Spring activities in which the weather Is unpredictable and basically blah. Also, it is during this month that tra- ditionally both school and Recreation Dopartments fail to rogram activites. Therefore, in ittcwi Mast, mood. .
