DRAFT <br />May 1, 1980 <br />Transportation Goals and Policies <br />Goal 1: Develop a balanced transportation system giving attention <br />to all modes and related facilitiea: <br />Polic : Treat all modes of transportation and <br />facilities related to each as one system to be <br />coordinated and related on a comprehensive basie. <br />Policy: The transpertation system will be <br />fooused on activity centers within the community. <br />Goal 2: Provide for safe and convenient movement by all modes. <br />Policy: Parking shall be limited or prohibited <br />along principal, intermadiate and minor arterials. <br />Goal 3: Develop a eystem of prioritiee for improving the various <br />elementa of the transportation system. <br />Policy: Plan transportation facilities to function <br />in a manner compatible with adjacent land uee, where <br />the function of a transportation facility has changed <br />over time to become incompatible with adjacent land <br />uea, a proqram to eliminate this incompatibility <br />s;uld be establiahed. <br />Polic : Hazardous and poorly deaiqned and controlled <br />intarsectiona shall be improved on a phased baeis to <br />increase the eafety of pedeatrians aad motoriste alike. <br />Policy: Street aaEety ahall be improved through <br />street liqhtinq, visibility, sign controls, elevated <br />pedestrian walkwaye and other such faoilities when <br />economically Peasible and 8eairable. <br />Polic : Public siqaaqe shall be related to the <br />overall eystem oP etreet function and control.
