lff t0 T0: 8ruce Anderson
FROM: Jeff Stottlemyer
DATE: February 27, 1980
RE: Skating Rink Season End Report
All warming housea have been checked and thoroughly looked at to aee what
has disappeared or broken during the course of the skating aeason.
One of the problems we had this year was keeping shovels and brooms inside
the warming houses, not carefully wa[ching who was using ehem caused a number
of shovels to be stolen. Brooms were being used primarily by kids making snow
caves or what have you. There was three weeks left in [he program when we
bought six new shovels and two brooms. We also had problems with vandalism
occuring at a couple of parks so we bought new locks to replace the old ones.
Because of the vandalism we had two Mounds View Parks, Recreation 6 Forestry
jackets atolen, the sites where they were s[olen from were Lambert and Hillview.
WHAT WENT WELL
One thing that the attendants did well was [o be friendly and courteous with
all skatera. Whenever I vas around which was quite often, the attendants
vere helping kids put on their skates for them, talking with parents and
even played some games aith the akaters.
The attendanta were very firm with the skaters. They did not allov the skaters
to get the best of them.
It took some encouragement but once it was through to the attendante, they vere
keeping the buildings clean.
They were good in letting the eupervisor know of. any problems occuring, for
example a hockey board isn't ingood condition, accurate accident reporta and
anything damnging to [he warming house.
The attendants madethe Kid-Naper Activi[y Day at the rink a big success, regard-
less of the poor sreather we had.
PROBLEMS DURING THE SEASON
The problems that occurred aere the cauae of the eupervisoz not streeaing what
ehould be done about them at the weekly ataff ineetings. The eupervisor did not
use the weekly etaff ineeting the way i[ was supposed to be used.
Attendants did not clear the ekating areas during the light snow Fall.
Attendan[e did not keep track of their ehovels, acrapers and brooms.
Problem for the firet part o£ the eeason vae the uae of our alternates.
scheduling being mixed up. The eupervisor not knoving vho worked, when and
vhere. Supervisor caught tha[ problem and aoon corrected it.
WHAT CHANGES COULD BB MADB
Heing ehar thie ia the first year the eupervisor ever ran an !ce ekating rink
program, he really couldn't aee any changea needed. Maybe !f he were to be the
upervieor for a ca!uple of seaeens, he could aee eome changee to maice,
