MEMO TO: Clerk -Administrator and City Council L
FROM: Director of Public Works/Community Developmentll..t
DATE: May 28, 1986 ✓/(v/
SUBJECT: STREET SWEEPING
On March 24, 1986, the City awarded the street sweeping contract
to American Sweepers, Inc. at $42.50 per hour for a not to exceed
price ct $4,600.00. Attached please find the following:
1. American Sweepers, Inc. invoice dated May 22, 1986.
2. City Council Consent Agenda dated March 24, 1986.
3. My letter to Herb Lang dated March 26, 1986.
Mr. Herb Lang of American Sweepers, Inc. will be at the June 2,
1986 Council meeting to ask the City Council to pay the full
amount of the May 22, 1996 invoice in the amount of $5,461.25.
Since this is a not to exceed the price of $4,600.00 agreement,
have trouble paying any more than $4,600.00 for street sweeping.
Mr. Lang may say that their was more sand on the streets this
year than the last few years. My reply is that, yes, there is
more sand ou the streets this year, but you are taking that
chance when you give the City a not to exceed price.
Mr. Lang may Say that he did nut sweep Red Oak Drive in past
years. This statement is also true, because now Red Oak Drive is
e City street. The information we =t p1 I hirldara, 1^.clu''ing
Mr. Lanq, inlicated that they would have to sweep Red Oak Drive.
In other words, Mr. Lang had the information that he would be
required to sweep Red Oak Drive this year prior to submitting his
proposal to the City.
For your information, the 1986 Budget for street sweeping is
$5,100.00.
RECOMMENDATION: I recommend paying no more than $4,600.00 for
This year's street sweeping service.
SWr/bac
