Mr. Tim Nelson -5- September 15, 1986 <br />f <br />Trip Distribution <br />The next step In the traffic forecasting process Is to <br />determine the general distribution of trips to/from the <br />development. Considerable analysis was performed to <br />accurately estimate trip distribution and Includeds <br />• Review of previous studies by Benshoof S Assoclates, <br />Inc. In the general area. <br />• Review of a traffic study performed by Short-Elllot- <br />Hendrlckson In 1984 concerning the need for additional <br />access on T.H. 10 between County Roads H and H-2. <br />• Analysis of the Metropolitan Council regional traffic <br />model of the origin and destination of trips to/from <br />this general area. <br />• Analysis of projected population distribution wlthln <br />10 miles of the development. <br />Review of existing turn movements at key area Intersec- <br />tions. <br />Discussions with JLN Development, ►nc. concerning the <br />expected market for the proposal. <br />Figure 2 presents the expected trip distribution developed <br />on the basis of these analyses. <br />Traffic Assignment <br />Based upon the expected trip generation and distribution, <br />daily and PM Peak Hour development traffic was assigned to <br />the roadway system via the most convenient direct route <br />to/from Its destination. Careful attention was paid to the <br />routings of trips to/from specific buildings In the devel- <br />opment based upon the location of each building, Its assocl- <br />ated parking layout, and the attractiveness of specific <br />routes. The following are examples of selected routings <br />utlilzed+ <br />For the most northwesterly office/service bullding: <br />all trips to/from T.H. 10 north and County Road H-2 <br />west were assigned via H-2, all trips to/from County <br />Road I east were assigned via Quincy Street, 70% of <br />trips to/From 1-35W north were assigned via Quincy St. <br />with the remainder assigned via T.H. 10/County Road H <br />given the projectes principal Identity from T.H. 10, <br />all trips to/from the south/southwest were assigned via <br />the new access to T.N. 10. <br />
