<br />Item No: 08A <br />Meeting Date: October 19, 2020 <br />Type of Business: Council/EDC Business <br />Administrator Review: _______ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council & Economic <br />Development Commissioners <br />From: Brian Beeman, Assistant City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Joint City Council & Economic Development Commission <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Introduction: <br />At its February 20, 2020 meeting, the EDC suggested holding a joint City Council/EDC <br />meeting as one of its 2020 goals. A joint meeting is also mentioned in the Strategic Plan. <br />The purpose of the meeting is to promote continued communication between the EDC, <br />(a recommending body) and the City Council. The EDC is a mix of business leaders and <br />Mounds View residents. The EDC exists to promote economic development activities, <br />support local businesses, and recommend economic development related activities, <br />programs, events, business retention and expansion efforts, marketing, legislation, <br />financial incentives, and several other duties in an effort to promote a positive business <br />climate in Mounds View. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />Assistant City Administrator Beeman will provide an overview of current projects then <br />each EDC Commissioner and City Council Member will provide a brief statement of who <br />they are, background, why they became interested in the City Council & EDC as it relates <br />to economic development, what their expectations and vision is for Mounds View, and <br />any other suggestions, ideas, thoughts as it pertains to local and regional economic <br />development and businesses. Potential topics could include the current business climate, <br />potential solutions, cooperation of City, County, State, and Federal government or <br />creative ideas specific to Mounds View, etc. The idea of the meeting is to learn what is <br />important to local leaders in respect to economic development and to keep the lines of <br />communication open between the City Council and EDC. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />Hear the vision, ideas, solutions, and recommendations of each member and continue <br />open communication between the City Council and the EDC. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br /> ________________________ <br />Brian Beeman <br />Assistant City Administrator <br /> <br />Attachment(s): <br />1.
