OTHER COMMUNITY'S CELEBRATIONS <br />A short telephone survey was conducted which gives an idea of how <br />other neighboring cities operate their city celebrations. <br />SPRING LAKE PARK - "Tower Days". Held the second week of June and <br />is one week long. It is coordinated by a citizen's committee. The <br />par!. and recreation department provides equipment and schedules park <br />use but is not involved in the organization of any activities. The <br />committee implements the activities. <br />BLAINE - "Blazing 4th". Held July 4, it is coordinated by a <br />committee consisting of community organizations. The community <br />services dept. acts as a liaison to the City Council. The event is <br />self-supporting with all activities being contracted out and a <br />percentage paid to the "Blaine's Blazing 4th" Committee. The Blains <br />City Council pays for the fireworks. <br />FRIDLEY - "49er Days". Held the second orthird <br />andrec.department <br />week <br />lhis <br />event is coordinated by a committee; the park <br />part of the committee and is responsible for a portion of the <br />e-tints. <br />ARDEN HILLS - "Fall Festival". .field September 10. This event is <br />sponsored and coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce. <br />fun?edThe <br />throughand <br />rec. department participates in activities. <br />It donations by businesses, end raffles. <br />NEW BRIGHTON - "Stockyard Days". Held the third week in June. The <br />event is coordinated by a committee made up of local business <br />persons, residents, and community groups and is self-supporting. <br />nts. <br />The park and rec. department participates by sponsoring <br />SHOREVIEW - "Aquafest" and "Turtle -Man Triathilon". Held August 20 - <br />21 (1988). The park and recreation department sponsors tournaments <br />and the public works department assists witn manpower. <br />COLUMBIA HEIGHTS - The Lion's Club, Boosters, and park and rec, dept. <br />cart-irinat_e. It is partially funded through donations. <br />r---- ". <br />ANOKA - "Halloween Parade". Held on the Saturday nearest to October <br />31. Held the last week in June and July 4. <br />This celebration is cocrdin•sted by the Roseville Park and art - <br />Recreation Department using four full-time staffinembers and part- <br />time summer recreation staff. <br />
