MEMORANDUM
Memo To :Mayor and City Council
From :R. A. Minetor, Director of PLIblirl Works
Date :August 23, 1988
Subject :Street Light Installation on Hillview Road
We have received a petition request for a st;:eet light to be
installed on Hillview Road between Long Lake Road and Woodlawr.
Drive. I have checked the City's policy and can not recommend
this installation. The petition is valid in accordance to the
policy; however, the criteria for installation are not satisfied.
Specifically, the policy lists the following criteria for
location:
Intersections, sharp curves, cul de sacs, dead ends, long
blocks, mid -block pedestrian crosswalks, and vandalized
areas.
i have received comment from the Police Chief regarding ti!e
history and potential for vandalism. He indicated that since
October of 1936 there has only been one vandalism incident
reported. He further indicated that he did not believe this area
had a high potential for vandalism. The othsr criteria do not
apply in this instance. There are existing street lights on the
north east corners of Long Lake Road at Hillview and Woodlawn at
Hillview, These lights ar2 approximately 660 feet apart. The
installation policy also recommends spacing of at least 400 feet
between street lights.
Due to the criteria in tha policy and the absence of any apparent
compelling need f-)r installation, I recommend not to install the
street light requested by petition.
is
