,m II
MEMO TO: MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBERS
FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR
PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY {
DATE: AUGUST 25, 1988
SUBJECT: HILLVIEW PARK RE -DEVELOPMENT
Staff has drawn another site plan for the re -development of Hillview
Park. Please review the accached plan.
This plan incorporates all the wishes of the council which were
eired at the last council meeting. The easterly half of the hockey
rink has been retained. The pleasure rink will lie on the western
halt of the current hockey rink area. The tot lot will lie in the
center back of the park with a picnic area to its immediate side.
The volleyball court will lie where the present tot lot is located.
The building will be moved towards Hillview Road and will lie just
south of the present hockey rink location. A sitting area of
benches will be provided in the front area, under the shade trees
to accommodate walkers, bus riders, and parents of children
involved in activities and others.
The drainage system remains the same. This proposal, as well as
staff's previous proposal reduces ice sheets by half, thus providing
for half the volume of water runoff during the thaw. Also, the
sheet of ice will be located in the center of the park rather than
directly next to property owners' Dackyards. Therefore, with
grading, the water from the center of the park should easily follow
the route to the Hillview Road inlet.
Two depressions will be graded to pool runoff water and divert it to
the French drainage system which will lead the water to the Hillview
Road inlet.
City Engineer Hinetor believes that this drainage system will take
care of the drainage needs of Hillview Park,
MS./S L
Enclosure
M
