r41
MEMORANDUM
Memo To: Mayor and City Council Members
From Ric Minetor, Director of Public Works/City Engineer
Date April 24, 1989 Ir7a,^%
Subject: Restrictions on Lawn Watering and Outdoor Use of Water
The Environmental Quality Task Force is recommending an Odd/Even
restriction with a complete ban between noon to 4:00 p.m. This
would apply to sprinkling lawns, gardens, and recreational uses of
a continuous supply of water (i.e. "slip n slides" or running
through sprinklers).
These restrictions would not be applied to newly sodded lawns,
root feeders (or bubblers) for trees, IdripI irrigation systems,
or filling of small wading pools (8 foot diameter or less and
less than 1 foot deep).
A permit for use of water not covered above could be obtained by
request to the Public Works Director and would be subject to
conditions as imposed by the Director. There would be no fee for
E' the permit; however, the permit could be denied if there were
previously approved permits which would result
20,000 gallons of estimated use.
The Public Works Director would retain authority to modify these
restrictions if conditions of water use and pumping capacity
dictated the need. Additional restrictions would take effect as
soon as publicized on the City Bulletin Board and on cable
television and approved by the mayor and clerk -administrator.
I recommend adoption of the attached resolution.
