A possible site has been identified and is currently owned by the <br />County. Commercial and Industrial Recycling <br />policy Statement: Ramsey County continuewill are encouraging <br />strategy, where increasing disposal costs <br />additional recycling by the commercial and industrial sector. <br />Staff will estimate commercial and industrial recycling levels by <br />using available data and gathering additional information as time <br />allows. Greater technical assistance should be provided to ensure <br />that this sector is well-informed as to advantages and <br />opportunities in recycling. <br />In 1989, staff will increase activities undertaken to encourage <br />C/I recycling. This increase will be possible due to the hiring <br />of a Recycling Information Specialist. Another additional staff <br />person will be hired to work largely on C/I recycling. It is <br />anticipated that, with additional technical assistance and <br />icr/I sector <br />willachievelevel of recycling V encourage at wllmetthe <br />eiiethe C <br />llchieverecycling <br />goals for this sector. <br />Activities to be undertaken in 1989 and 1990 will include: <br />.,rma,,;mations, including chambers of commerce, <br />Lion's Clubs and others, to 'spread the word' on the cost saviAga <br />possible through recycling. <br />- conducting seminars to distribute information on the <br />reasons for and methods of recycling. <br />- promoting awareness through general publicity campaigns. <br />- encouraging 'piggy -backing' on the residential recycling <br />routes, as a number of small businesses are currently doing. <br />- encouragino, recycling through the volume -based waste <br />management and ;.olid waste service charges which are placed on <br />the property tax statements. Because C/I tax parcels are assessed <br />at one of three rates depending on the amount of garbage <br />generated on that parcel, many companies have received a <br />reduction of this charge by implementing a recycling program. <br />- promoting yard waste abatement by allowing commercial <br />generators access to the large comncsting operation. <br />- providing support for C\I recycling through the Ramsey <br />County Recycling Center, where Super Cycle is currently handling <br />13 <br />
