INFORMATION n r, r i v n r�. uivL i ` ,A:"t131 _ August 9. 1989} Citv of Mounds ViewNk st�� 2401 Highway 10a� Mounds View, Mn. 35112 Attention: City Council Members Gentlemen: I have followed. with interest. the controversy over the proposed shelter to be erected in Silver View Park through articles in the New Brighton Bulletin and the Focus, and find it difficult to understand why this cannot be resolved and the city get on with more important business. The articles lend one to believe that the Mounds View Lions are wanting to put a shelter in the park for their own use and are requesting the city to pick up the cost of the water & sewer. I have discussed this with friends of mine who are members of the Lions Club and they have informed that these articles are misleading in the effect that they are donating $75,000 to the city for a shelter to be built but are asking the City to pick,.ytp the remaining costs. This seems to me to be a very generous offer, so why can't it be settled. Seventy five thousand dollars for a shelter seems like an extravagance in itself considering the number of people in Mounds View who go to the food shelter to supplement their groceries only to find that it is in scant supply. I recently read an article in the Star Tribune regarding food shelves that are in need and Mounds View was on the list. Maybe it's time for the Mcunds View Lions and the City of Mounds View to put their priorities in order - $75,000 could go a long way toward feeding and sheltering those lass fortunate. The MOunOs View Lions as well as all Lions Clubs are a non-profit charitable organization and -hruld not be expected to defray the cost of runnino the City of Mounds View.
