3
MEMO TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Public Works Foreman UlrichJ
DATE: November 9,1989
SUBJECT: Purchase of fall protection for water towers
This budget year we allocated monies for fall protection
for our water towers. We viewed demos and visited surrounding
communities to get an idea of what worked for these people and
what was out there tG work with. This type of protection is new
to many of us and is being required by new OSHA regulations. The
system recommended by the public works employees was the Miller
Suretrack Climbing and Fall Protection System. Two venders have
provided us with bids. They are as follows:
' Viking Safety Products ------------------------- $4,792.00
Carlson Equipment ------------------------------ $4,863.00
We have $5,000.00 budgeted for this expense.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends award of bid to Viking Safety
Products for two fall protection systems plus installation for
$4,792.00 to be charged to Water Capital Improvement Fund 700-
4121-703.
1
