MEMO TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: CLERK -ADMINISTRATOR DATE: AUGUST 24, 1987 SUBJECT: MANAGEMENT SKILLS ANALYSIS As you may recall, I indicated after the Management Skills Analysis had been performed on Steve Rose, that it would be my desire that such a program be conducted on myself as well in the near future. I was recently contacted by Don Salverda, who is a Ramsey County Commissioner and operates a management consultant firm in Roseville, regarding such a program he Drovides which, besides conducting a survey of superiors, peers and subordinates as well as the individual themselves, also provides specific recommendations for improving the individual's management effectiveness and a lenothy program encompassing approxiately nine months of monthly meetings with a number of professional colleagues from the metropolitan area who are also participating in "-he program to develop a peer support group that would assist an individual in addressing their weaknesses and undertaking efforts to correct them. My main interest in this program ie as a result of the emphasis on establishment of a peer support group to assist the individual. in addressing their management skills weaknesses. Also, this program, which is far more extensive than that conducted by Personnel Decisions, Inc. on Steve Rose, is at a cost of $600.00 or approximately $200.00 less than the expense for Steve Rose's program which only included testing and three meetings between the consultant, Steve Rose and myself. It would appear that this program provides a significant amount of service and assistance to the individual to address their management skills needs and 1 would request that you authorize that I participate in this program which commences on September 30th of this yee-.
