MEMO TO: Clerk -Administrator and City Council
. FROM: Director of Public Works/Community Development
DATE: February 4, 1987
SUBJECT: RAMSEY COUNTY'S CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM 1987-1992
Attached please find a preliminary copy of the subject Capital
Improvement Program. In 1987 Ramsey County plans to conduct the
following work in the City of Mounds View:
1. Reconstruct County Road I from T.H. 10 to I-35W
2. Overlay County Road I from the west County Line to Silver
Lake Road
3. Seal coat Silver. Lake Road from Bronson Drive to T.H. 10
The Capital Improvement Program indicates that in 1987 the
Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to conduct signal
light maintenance work on T.H. 10 at Silver Lake Road, County
Road H, County Road II-2, and Long Lake Road. The Minnesota
Department of Transportation recently indicated that this work
will be rescheduled to 1988. The City's contribution for this
maintenance work of updating the control systems in the signal
lights on T.H. 10 is estimated at $30,000.
The non -programmed construction projects category of the Capital
Improvement Program proposes construction of signal lights on
Silver Lake Road at the intersections of County Road H, County
Road H-2, and County Road I. In addition, the reconstruction of
Long Lake Road from County Road II to County Road J and the
reconstruction of Old Highway 8 from the City of New Brighton to
County Road H does not have a planned construction date.
RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that the City send a letter to
Ramsey County stating the following:
1. The City requests the reconstruction of Long Lake Road
from County Road H to County Road J in 1988.
2. The City requests the reconstruction of Old Highway 8 from
the City of New Brighton to County Road li in 1989.
3. The signal lights proposed on Silver Lake Road at County
Road Il, County Road II-2, and County Road I are not
priority projects for the City of Mounds View in view of
the fact that records do not reveal a need for controls
above the .level of stop signs currently available at those
intersections.
SW'r/bac
