im <br />N <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2173 <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING GREATER STATE AND FEDERAL <br />EFFORTS TO CONTROL THE SPREAD OF AIDS <br />WHEREAS, the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, or <br />AIDS, was first reported in the United States in mid 1981 <br />and 15,000 cases have been reported since that time; and <br />WHEREAS, an estimated 500,000 to 1,000,000 people <br />have been infected by the virus that causes AIDS, but have <br />no symptoms of the illness; and <br />WHEREAS, AIDS is a public health problem that merits <br />serious concern and has been named the number one priority <br />of the U. S. Public Health Service; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Mounds View is greatly concerned <br />that adequate efforts be undertaken by the State of <br />Minnesota and the United States Government to provide funds <br />at a level adequate to provide the level of education <br />programs and research to prevent the further spread of this <br />illness. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of <br />the City of Mounds View on behalf of the residents of the <br />City of Mounds View urges the Minnesota Legislature and <br />United States Congress to adequately fund research and <br />education programs designed to prevent the further spread of <br />this illness and ultimately seek a cure for this serious <br />public health problem. <br />Adopted this 9th day of March, 1987. <br />(SEAL) <br />Mayor <br />I <br />�-' ATTEST: <br />Clerk -Administrator <br />
