rz--5
\ MEMO TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: CLERK -ADMINISTRATOR
DATE: MAY 13, 1987
SUBJECT: FIRE INSPECTIONS
As I indicated during my Administrative Report at the May llth
Council Meeting, deficiencies are being noted in some of the
multiple dwelling units located in the City of Mounds View as it
relates to fire safety matters. In view of the fact that our new
Building Official began his duties on May llth and it is unlikely
that he would be able to assume full involvement in fire
inspections during the next 90 days, it would be my desire that
the City contract with the Fire Department to undertake those
duties during that time frame in order that fire inspections may
be coordinated with the activities of our Housing Inspector.
With that position in mind, I recently met with the Fire
Department to discuss with them this possibility and they
indicated an interest in doing so with the understanding that the
Department bill the City monthly for these inspection services as
a supplementary budget item with the permit fees collected by the
Department reducing the total amount due. Attached is an Addendum
to the Fire Inspection Protocol entered into between both parties
in August of last year with a provision that the agreement may be
cancelled by unilateral action of either party upon 10 days
written notice.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff would recomend Council approve Amendment
No. 1 to t,ie re Inspection Protocol.
DFP/mjs
Attachment:
t
