effect lighting, incandescent down lights, etc., should not be <br />used except with special approval of staff. <br />Night lighting and emergency lighting systems should be <br />separate from the general lighting pattern and switched <br />separately. The night lighting should provide for illumination <br />at all times the building is closed to the public. This system <br />should also provide for safe staff egress. (Exterior lights are <br />noted in the previous section.) <br />All general public areas of the building are to be <br />switched ffom panels at the circulation desk and/or wort; room. <br />No switches are to be in general public areas. Individual rooms <br />as called for in this program shall have individual switching <br />within the' room. The switching panel must be readily identified. <br />allow variable light volume in each major area, and must provide <br />for switches not just circuit breakers. <br />Lighting in specific storage areas may utilize task or <br />book stack lighting but this must be reviewed and approved by the <br />staff. <br />d. Mechanical Systems <br />Adequate air control and treatment is essential, and <br />all systems used, heating and cooling, should have excellent <br />electrostatic filter and humidity control. The systems selected <br />must have low level operational noise and high velocity .systems <br />are not desirable. The exterior unit must be protected and <br />screened from view. <br />The most advanced energy conservation systems must be <br />carefully considered for the building. <br />All temperature controls must be carefuly located in <br />consideration of furniture and shelving placement and must be <br />either of locked or shielded type to prevent public adjustment or <br />tampering. <br />No license should be necessary for the oeration of any <br />of the mechanical systems selected for the building. <br />e. Communications Systems <br />The library will acquire a public address system with 3 <br />or 4 zones, computer terminal systems, and a separate telephone <br />system serving both public and office needs. <br />The central telephone answering equipment will be <br />located in the circulation wort: room and also at the circulation <br />desk. <br />Each public service desk and work area described in <br />this program will require telephone And computer conduit(to be <br />verified with staff) and some areas will also require connection <br />0 <br />
