with heating and cooling costs, as well as maintenance and <br />replacement costs in mind. <br />Some windows in each area should be operable, not fixed, <br />both for ease of cleaning and for ventilation in the event of <br />mechanical failure. <br />Window placement and size mi.tst take into consideration <br />shelving heights, work counters and normal desk heights to avoid <br />unsightly views from outside. <br />6. Display area. Picture hanging rails, unobtrusive and a <br />part of the desgn, should be located at 6' heights throughout the <br />public area. Library staff should be consulted at the time of <br />preliminary design for the exact location. <br />Display cases, brochure racks, and bulletin boards should be <br />incorporated into the vestibule and lobby areas. The staff must <br />be consulted at design stage for these special features. <br />7. Workrooms. General staff workrooms must contain a <br />counter and„sink and bulletin board for staff schedules, notices, <br />etc. <br />S. Clocks. Clock outlets should be provided in the <br />workroom., meeting rooms, and in general public areas as final <br />plan determines is necessary for easy visibility. The clock <br />allowance in the general contract must provide for quality, <br />maintenance -free clocks and it is recommended that the actual <br />clocks to be used be selected prior to construction bids. <br />9. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment. All <br />fixture and hardware items specified should be available locally <br />for replacement and repair needs. <br />11). Millwork. Check-out and <br />check -in should be designed as a "pass -through" system so that <br />materials do not have to be desensitized. <br />14. Drinking fountains.
