First, we want to briefly reacquaint you with the services pruvided by the Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) and secondly, we want to advise you of our financial situatic:i for 1988. As perhaps you are aware, the Dispute Resolution Center has been assisting local governments and citizens of Ramsey County resolve a wide variety of disputes over the past 4-1/2 years. The Center provides mediation and conciliation services t^ assist disputing parties to work together In developing mutually agreeable solutions to their differences. Our service area Includes all of Ramsey County. Nearly thirty percent of our clients reside outside of the City of S'. Paul. We have successfully mediated over fifty cases through the Maplewood and White Bear Lake branches of Conciliation Court in the first eight months of 1987. The services are beneficial to the City of Mounds View because we can handle cases which demand an Inordinate amount of city staff time and energy. Citizen -based disputes Involving neighbors, business and consumers, or landlords and tenants can be referred to the Center for quick and inexpensive resolution. In addition, we assist cities to resolve disputes where the city is a party, Inc!uding disputes over land use, contracts for service, special assessments or a host of other Issues where a strictly legal Interpretation may not apply or result le the most satisfactory long-term solution to the problem. Governor Perplch will proclaim the week of November 15-21 as Dispute Resolution Week. The purpose of the Week Is to Increase the public's awareness of the advantages of settling disputes out of court and of the services available through facilities such as the Center. As part of the Week's activities, we will make a presentation at the Ramsey County League of Local Governments monthly meeting on November 18th. We will demonstrate how you can use our services effectively and answer any questions you might have.
