MEMO TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUN
FROM: CLERK-ADMINISTRATO
DATE: NOVEMBER 12, 1987
SUBJECT: EXTERIOR DOOR REPLACEMENT
As you will recall, during the November 2nd Agenda session I
discussed with you the need for replacement of exterior
doors at the Police Station, Well House Nos. 2 and 3, and
the Booster Station to replace doors that are currently in a
state of severe deterioration. At that time I presented to
you a proposal from Cottonwood Construction, the contractor
currently performing the work on the Public Works Garage
addition, in the amount of $6,730 for this work. Staff has
obtained a second quote from Gilbert Construction, Inc. for
the same work in the amount of $7,03.2. It needs to bewas
pointed out that the Cottonwood Construction prop
osalfor galvanized doors whereas the Gilbert Construction
proposal is for non -galvanized doors. In both cases, the
contractors list deducts of between $700 and $956 depending
upon the useability of existing frames.
Ji
Staff also discussed with each of these 'contractors
the
feasibility of resizing the doors aaV --- -
question with staff members of the Public yWorks Department.
Both contractors indicated that resizing of the doors would
thaall cases
coat and additional $200 to $300 and exactly,
therefore,the
existing brick could not be matched eac y
resulting in an exterior appearance that would clearly show
the new work. Discussions with members of the staff
revealed that in the case of the Well Houses and Booster
Station, the doors are sized to allow various pieces of
s for chlorineThedresizingeof the doorsto be ht
equipment and tank
in and out of these buildings.
would make such moving of tanks difficult; if not
impossible.
At this time, Staff would recommend that Council approve the
proposal of Cottonwood Construction in the amount of $6,730
for the replacement of these doors. As it will take between
8 and 10 weeks for these doors to be installed, your
decision on this matter would be appreciated.
Staffwoula ME recommend Council authorization and approval of
a proposal from Cottonwood Construction for theousee instaosallation
of exterior doors on the Police Station,
and 3, and Booster Statior in the amount of $630.
DFP/mjs
