MEMO TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCI <br />FROM: CLERK-ADMINISTRAT <br />DATE: MARCH 2, 1988 <br />SUBJECT: NORTH SUBURBAN CABLE COMMISSION 1988 CONTRIBUTION <br />Attached please find a letter from Bootsie Anderson, <br />administrator for the North Suburban Cable Commission, <br />transmitting to the City of Mounds View a check from Cable TV <br />North Central in the amount of $25,273.97 reflecting the City's <br />1987 franchise fees. Also enclosed with Ms. Anderson's letter <br />was a statement from the Cable Commission in the amount of <br />$18,110.62 reflecting the City's contribution to the Commission <br />for 'Cheir operation during 1988. The net result is that the City <br />of Mounds View will have available to it a total of $7,163.35 out <br />_ <br />of the franchise fees to fund our cable operation during 1988. <br />?, <br />I realize that many of you will respond negatively to the <br />contribution requested by the Cable Commission, however, the <br />alternative to paying this contribution would also appear to be <br />an unsatisfactory outcome, namely withdrawal from the <br />Commission. Therefore, staff would recommend Council <br />authorization of the payment of $18,110.62 to the North Suburban <br />Cable Commission as a contribution to its 1988 operating costs. <br />I have requested that Parks, Recreation and Forestry Director <br />_ =' <br />Mary Saarion complete an analysis of the City's cable TV budget <br />in comparison to the $7,163.35 we will have available to us in <br />1988 to determine impacts of this reduction in our available <br />revenue sources. This report will be provided to you as soon as <br />it is available. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends payment of the 1988 contribution to the North <br />Suburban Cable Commission in the amount of $18,110.62 to be <br />charged to the City's Cable TV Fund. <br />DFP/mjs <br />Attachment: <br />
