-3-
PROGRAM ABSTRACT
® This program proposal addresses the need for childcare programs
t during school vacation days.
Households which have two working parents or a single working
parent and school age children are often burdened with the
problem of arranging care for their children) during non -school
workdays.
Mounds View School District #621 scheduled twenty-two school days
including two•MEA days, five days of conferences, three clerical
days and twelve holidays during the 1987-88 school year. These
were all normal business workdays. Thankgiving, Christmas and New
Years days which were traditional holidays, are not included in the
numbers above.
This proposal addresses the need for school age childcare during
school vacation days and is specifically designed for the working
parent(s).
In this day and age, an increasing number of households have two
working parents. It is stressful for parents to try to find j
adequate arrangements for childcare during school vacation days.
The goal of this program proposal is to offer an opportunity FOR
parents to registar their school age children in a fun,
recreational program of organized daylong activities scheduled i
J during normal'workdays when the schools are not in session. _..
cif' Y
PROBLEMS AND NEED STATEMENT
Working parents usually have daily arrangements for pre-school age
childcare but seldom have arrangements for school age childcare
during occasional days when school is not in session. Therefore,
during work days when school is not in session, there is a need for
childcare. Such arrangements are not made Asily because sporatic
daycare services are not always available.
