The Mounds View Vision
A Thriving Desirable Community

Item No: 5D
Meeting Date: August 11, 2025
Type of Business: CA
City Administrator Review: _____
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Don Peterson, Director of Public Works / Parks and Recreation
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 10143, Approving the Art Rendering for the Fitness
Court
Introduction:
Blue Cross & Blue Shield (BCBS) have partnered with Fitness Court – National Fitness
Campaign to make communities healthier via an “free” outdoor fitness court. Willmar, St. Cloud,
Shakopee, Moose Lake, Brooklyn Center and Minneapolis have all installed units.

BCBS provides $50,000 in grant funding towards the purchase and installation of the Court
along with $25,000 for local artists to add their time and talent.

Discussion:
On July 14, 2025, the City Council selected the Artist for the Fitness Court, of the short Artist list
provided by the National Fitness Campaign. BCBS provides funding for the Artist and will also
approve the final artwork that will be placed on the wall of the fitness studio.

Council Members Clark and Gunn have provided feedback on the Artist work and the final draft
rendering was presented at the August 4, 2025, City Council Work Session.

Strategic Plan Strategy/Goal:
A progressive City that is a welcoming and desirable destination to all ages and cultures, who
seek progress through partnership, and a place where residents can live, work and play safely
and show pride in the community.

Financial Impact: No Impact to the 2025 Budget.

Recommendation:
Staff recommends the Council adopts the attached resolution approving the final draft artwork
for the Fitness Court/ Studio.

Respectfully submitted,

__________________________
Don Peterson
Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation

RESOLUTION 10143
