MOUNnS 1 VIEw
of Mounds View Staff R,
Item No: 8G
Meeting Date: November 24, 2025
Type of Business: CB
Administrator Review:
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation
Pete Szurek, Public Works Superintendent
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 10176, Authorization to Purchase a Boss Snowrator Mag
48" with Implements
Background/Discussion:
One of the many responsibilities of Public Works is snow and ice removal on sidewalks located
in all parks to include, wells, treatment plants, and City facilities in addition to the recently sidewalk
of Tribute Park.
Clearing the sidewalk snow and ice at City Hall, Community Center, Police Department and Public
Works shop has been removed by a walk behind, 1 or 2 stage, snow blower and/or with a shovel.
Currently Public Works has two 2011 snow blowers; 1 is not operational and 1 is used at the
parks, wells, treatment plants, facilities and grounds.
Staff has researched and tested various sidewalk snow removal equipment that would best fit the
needs and operations of the Department and has received a quote for a 2025 Boss Snowrator
Mag 48", from Crysteel of Fridley MN for a total of $32,658.00 which includes shipping. NOTE:
the 2025 budget does not include funds for this equipment.
The proposed Snowrator would offer some protection from the elements for the operator and
assist in a more efficient way to clear snow and ice. This machine offers a broom option and that
feature will significantly reduce salt use on the sidewalks.
Staff have conferred with the Finance Director, and an option was presented to utilize
a portion of the proceeds, $43,458.04, from the 2025 fall auction to fund this equipment purchase.
Strategic Plan Strategy/Goal: Maintain and Plan for Infrastructure Improvements.
Financial Impact: Vehicle and Equipment Fund, 460-4470-7030
Recommendation:
Staff recommends the purchase of a Snowrator Mag 48" with broom and blower attachments,
from Crysteel of Fridley MN, a recognized vendor from the State CPV Sourcewell bid, totaling
$32,658.00 to include shipping, utilizing a portion of the 2025 fall auction proceeds of $43,458.04
and to be funded from 460-4470-7030.
Respectfully submitted,
Don Peterson
Director of Public Works / Parks and Recreation
The Mounds View Visio
A Thriving Desirable Comii........
Pete Szurek
Public Works Superintendent
