Letter to Mary Saarion
May 1, 1997
•
Page Three
7 . Illegal Dumping
* Should any dumping of yard waste or other materials occur outside
the gate or fence, the site monitor is responsible for cleaning
up these materials or for contacting other County staff.
* In some cases the County' s contracted transportation and
maintenance vendor, A-1 Walsh, cleans up illegally dumped
materials if found when this firm is scheduled to perform other '
operations at the site .
* The County Community Corrections Department also periodically
picks up litter and maintains the site.
8 . Other Operational Issues
* Any complaints about site operations should be directed to John
Springman or his designee, using the Division of Solid Waste' s
main number, 773-4444 . Residents can also report a complaint to
the site monitor, who will relay it to John.
* The Division provides and maintains several signs for the site .
* The Division provides wood chips, when available, at its sites
for free pickup and use by residents (we have had difficulty
obtaining good quality chips this past year) .
* Master Gardeners are available at several scheduled times at the
site to answer lawn and garden question and to distribute
• information from the Minnesota Extension Service on lawn care and
backyard composting.
We hope this summary of our operating procedures is helpful . As
always, if you have any questions or comments, please contact us.
(John Springman at 773-4448 is the primary contact for site operation
issues, and Michael Reed at 773-4443 is his backup. Norm Schiferl is
the contact for solid waste policy and permitting issues related to
this and other sites . )
Sincerel ,
ohn Spr ng man yNorm Schiferl
nv ironmental Health Specialist 114—/
Program Analyst
enc .
cc : Zack Hansen, Division Manager
Michael Reed, Environmental Health Specialist
111
