•
November 24, 1997
Good Day:
It has come to my attention that you are interested in applying for a vacancy on the Parks and
Recreation Commission. Currently there are two vacancies on the Parks and Recreation
Commission because former member Sherry Gunn recently was elected to the City Council.
Former Chair and twenty-seven year member Wayne Burmeister retired and moved to Wisconsin
this past Fall. This leaves two openings on the Parks and Recreation Commission.
The Parks and Recreation Commission meets for regular meetings every fourth Thursday of each
month at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. There are frequent other meetings in between these regular
meetings. The Parks and Recreation Commission has a tradition of being a "working"
commission which means that Commission members are often asked to volunteer during special
• events, serve on ad hoc committees and volunteer on various boards such as the Festival, Mounds
View Community Theater, Park improvement projects, Scouts, coaching, etc. It is during these
experiences that Commission members are able to keep abreast of what is going on in the
community in the realm of Parks and Recreation.
So, if this sounds of interest to you, please complete and return the enclosed application. The
process is that the application will be given to the administration department who will forward it
to the Mayor who appoints Commission members. There have been occasions when interviews
of applicants are requested. If you have any questions regarding the Parks and Recreation
Commission, please feel free to give me a call at 717-4041.
Sincerely,
Mary Saarion, Director
Parks, Recreation & Forestry
