He commented on how it would be beneficial for the City to have a community <br /> 3 member overseeing the plots to keep the City out of this. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 Mayor Lindstrom asked what size plot the residents were looking for. Mr. Wood explained the <br /> 6 plots in St. Cloud were 12' x 12'. Public Works/Parks and Recreation Director Peterson indicated <br /> 7 the smaller plots he was proposing were 10' x 15'. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 Mayor Lindstrom explained he would be willing to take an active role in the community garden <br /> 10 because he wanted to see this being successful and equitable for everyone involved. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 City Administrator Zikmund reported the City could look at renting a tiller for the first year. He <br /> 13 noted the property had utilities onsite which would assist with providing water to the garden plots. <br /> 14 He anticipated this would be a program with great interest and the City would have to assign the <br /> 15 garden plots through a lottery system. He suggested the plots be 10' x 10' in size for the first year. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 Council Member Clark recommended this lot not be marketed for sale in 2026 and that this land <br /> 18 be designed as a community garden in 2027 if the program was successful. She indicated she <br /> 19 supported the City moving forward with a community garden. <br /> 20 <br /> 21 Council Member Smith suggested staff reach out to the schools to see if a small garden shed could <br /> 22 be built for the community garden to allow for the storage of gardening tools. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Mr. Meyer stated he could speak with Dave,the owner of Central Rental,noting he may be willing <br /> 25 to provide a tiller to the City free of charge. He explained if he was provided with a blueprint he <br /> 26 could work with the school to have a garden shed built. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Ms. Higgin reported the school community garden has a lot of gardening tools that have already <br /> 29 been donated from the buy nothing group. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Mayor Lindstrom closed the meeting for public comment. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 Mayor Lindstrom recommended staff be directed to draft a list of rules for the garden plots. Public <br /> 34 Works/Parks and Recreation Director Peterson explained he could work on this but asked the <br /> 35 Council to provide direction on what the fee should be for the garden plots. <br /> 36 <br /> 37 Council Member Gunn suggested the City charge $25 per plot. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 Mayor Lindstrom suggested the garden plot fee be $50. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 Council Member Smith reported Roseville charges $24 for a 15' x 20' plot and $39 for a 15' x 40 <br /> 42 plot. <br /> 43 <br /> 44 The Council consensus was to charge $25 per garden plot and it was recommended the plots be <br /> 45 reserved for Mounds View residents with 75% of the plots being reserved for multi-family <br /> 46 residents. <br />
