Applicant Gregory Evenson has <br /> applied to keep and raise honeybees on his property located at 2309 <br /> Oakwood Drive. <br /> Discussion: <br /> Mr. Evenson will have two hives on his property; the maximum allowed by Code is <br /> four hives. Mr. Evenson has submitted the necessary certification recognizing the <br /> completion of the online short course for beekeeping in northern climates through <br /> the University of Minnesota. <br /> A site plan has been provided showing that the hives will be located in the rear yard <br /> and that there are adequate setbacks from the home (75') and both affected <br /> property lines (12' and 18'). <br /> In accordance with Section 90.0005(b), applications are considered by the City <br /> Council after holding a public hearing. Licenses are valid indefinitely if the hives <br /> operate continuously. Licenses can be revoked or denied by the City Council based <br /> on negligence or nuisance. In such event, the applicant would be provided with an <br /> opportunity to be heard by the City Council. <br /> Staff published a public hearing notice in the City's official newspaper, the St. Paul <br /> Pioneer Press, on May 14, 2026. Public hearing notices were also mailed to <br /> residents within 350 feet of 2309 Oakwood Drive. <br /> Mr. Evenson has indicated he will be present at the City Council Meeting/public <br /> hearing. <br />
