PROCLAMAT/ON
WHEREAS, in 2007, after a second failed street project, the City Council
established a taskforce of residents to review the City's assessment policy,
project financing and to formulate a standard street design; and,
WHEREAS, more than thirty residents volunteered their time and efforts
on the streets taskforce, and after a year of intense work, the taskforce
formulated a set of recommendations which were presented to the community
and City Council for their consideration; and,
WHEREAS, The Council ultimately adopted every recommendation
submitted, which resulted in an innovative nine-project, ten-year program to
replace all substandard City streets and utilities, without ANY direct assessment
to the residents; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of this extraordinary effort, in December of
2009, American City and County recognized the City of Mounds View as
"America's Crown Community", just one of eleven cities or counties nationwide to
be thusly designated.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that, I, Joe Flaherty, Mayor of the
City Mounds View, do hereby proclaim January 12, 2010, as
AMERICA'S CROWN COMMUNITY DAY
And hereby express my sincere thanks and appreciation to all those who were
involved in the streets taskforce process.
