The regular meeting of the Mounds View Village Council was order by Mayor Hodges at 8:00 P.M., May 10, 1965 at 2401 10. The Attorney «plained what the Council was doing in its preliminary survey and cplained the terms destroyed, condemned, and severly damaged as se in report. Motion by L: Jaque that the list of damaged property be incorporated into the minutes. Seconded by :'::]vin. 5 Ayes. Mr, La Vequ requested that Gene Sklba print in the paper (New Brighton Bulletin a request that citizens in severly damaged area report insurance ldjustments to the Council. Mayor Hodge: praised the Police Department, Civil Defense, Water Department, Salvation Army, and all others who have worked long and diligently throuchout this disaster Concerning personal salvage, the Attorney suggested that the Council set a time 1: it on this action No action taken at this time. Motion by .ianchard that dispi ce:i persons be allowed to live in trailers in the devastated area with special use permit. This permit will be for Sr days with renewal cptionr, The Council must know the location of each trailer. Secor,dc:d by Rustad. 5 Ayes. -2- The Attorney announced that Herbst Construction Company 0 JO O 53 had been contracted to do clean -up work in the village. The Village has received letters from the Building Inspector, Plumbing and Heating Inspector, Electrical Inspector and the Public Health Officer. The Council will send these, with a covering letter to Govenor Rolvagg asking for his assistance in getting Federal Aid. County Commissioner, Ed Salverda,announced that the County Board had passed a resolution today stating that persons whose houses were totally destroyed by the to::..nado can apply for a rebate on their 1965 taxes. Mr. Boog announced that the County Assessor and the County Auditor will tour the area tomorrow morning. (5- 11 -65) Mr. Varnes, 7350 Fairchild Avenue, would like to have his property razed the early part of next week. His insurance should be settled by Friday. Mr. Joe Dolphy and Mr, Ben Dahl appeared before the Council in answer to a letter sent by the Council regarding compliance with zoning regulations. 1. Mr. Dolphy said that the neighbors did not want a fence but that he would plant trees sometime. 2. He said he did not agree*to put up a fence. 3. The place has been cleaned up. It was inspected last fall and again this month. 4. He said he didn't know that he owed a $5.00 special use permit fee. He agreed to pay it. 5. Mr. Dahl said that he would have the gas pumps removed. The Attorney announced that all cars from the disaster area are being towed to the Village Hall and kept under guard. Motion by La Vague that the Village not be responsible for cars left in the lot after May 20, 1965 and that cars be disposed of 30 days from May 15, 1965. Seconded by Malvin. 5 Ayes. The Mayor red a letter from Captain Vern Leitz, 820 Sunset Terrace, Dover, Delaware, commending the Mounds View Police Force for helping his mother. Police Commission No report. Public Work Mr. La Vague reported that the Village has had sufficient water at all times through the emergency. He also sta ed that no work has been done on road repair for the last week. He announced1 that water meters are being taken out of all condemned homes. Motion by La Vague to abate water bills from these homes from the last billino to the present rending on those meters. Seconded by Blanchare. 5 Ayes. Motion by Blanchard to pay the bills submitted totaling $156,843.63 including five engineering estimates. Seconded by La Vaque. 5 Ayes, Mayor Hodges thanked Bud Ramacker for the use of the Bel Rae Ballroom for this council meeting. The receipt of $1,900,000.00 from the Bond Sale and the investing of the full amount in Government Certificates was reported by the Administrative Clerk, Mr. Boog. Mayor Hodges requested one minute of silence in respect for the dead of the community. Motion by Blanchard to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Austad. 5 Ayes. The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
