The building that formerly held the Tom Thumb Supermarket and was
condemned after the Mzy 6th Tornado is a serious hazard according to
reports from Police, Citizens and Inspectors. The Attorney was
directed to notify the owners to raze the building in a short time
or the Council would have to order it done and assess the property
for the costs of razing.
The matter of the Chies Brothers removal of an excessive
amount of fill from the Schroeder property was discussed and the
Attorney was directed to notify the County to order the contractor
to stop this removal, as no permit for excavation has been issued
and he is in fact creating a swampy area. The Mayor will attempt
to determine if the owner of the property has allowed this removal.
Motion by Blanchard to grant the subdivision request and
necessary front footage variance to Mr. G. Hillsdale, 6951 Knollwood
Drive as per application on file. Seconded by Rustad. 4 Ayes.
La Vague Abstained.
The Clerk was directed to direct a letter to the Highway
Department requesting (Mounds View Village) signs be placed at the
North and South ends of the Village on 35W - Highway # 8 - Highway # 10.
Mr. Charles Jackson, Civil Defense Director, reported that
the new truck was not complete according to the inventory and that
Mayor Hodges will aid in settling ttis matter with the State Civil
Defense Department.
The Engineer gave the current Sanitary Sewer and read report
and presented the preliminary report for permanent resurfacing of
County Roads.
Motion by Blanchard to accept the preliminary report on
street improvement project 1965 -1 ar,d to order the final plans
and specs from the Engineer. Seconced by Rustad. 5 Ayes.
Motion by Rustad to advertise for bids on Street Improvement
Project 1965 -1. Bids to close September 27, 1965 at 7:30 P.M.
Seconded by Hodges. 5 Ayes.
(The above two motions regarding l965 -1 street improvement projects
are a portion of the over -all Sanitary Sewer surface water drainage
and street improvement program. Original Public Hearings held on
Qecember 5, 12 and 19, 1963 and January 14, 1964. The improvement
was ordered on March 23, 1964.)
The Engineer was instructed to inspect the damage discovered
in the water utility building and to report to the Council regarding
probable cause and estimate as to the repair cost.

The inspection department will direct letters to homeowners
in the tornado area, who have not yet started to rebuild, about
filling in their basements.
Motion by Blanchard to pay bills submitted totaling
$232,303.28. Seconded by Hodges. 5 Ayes.
