Mayor Rustad then called for residents comments. John Krawczyk, 5128 Eastwood
Drive, questioned traffic flow and the adequacy of the buffer zone. Mr. Copeland
stated that the traffic would be directed down Ridge Land or Brighton Lane.and
that they would be happy to hire a traffic engineer to study the problem. Also
stated that they would provide fencing if residents desired fencing.
Wayne Jones, Brighton Lane, was against the proposal because the traffic would
be directed to school grounds at Sunnyside school.
Richard Paradise, Eastwood and Woodcrest, was against. He asked the Engineer
if in fact water was not a problem since we are in the process of constructing
additions to our utility system. The Engineer stated that the HUD specifications
required that our water utility system provides usage up to 1988. Richard
Paradise also questioned the adequacy of the police force in the event this
project was constructed. Proposed development would bring in approximately
1,500 more people to the community. Norman Chervany was against the proposal.
He stated that this was not the place for the development, residents suffer
intangible losses. He questioned if there was no other area in the community
for such a development.
Howard Neisen, 5150 Irondale, asked about the land East of Long Lake Road.
Mayor Rustad stated this would be discussed later in the meeting by another
developer.
Paul Kraska stated he had not heard a response to Mr. Chervany's question.
Gerald Tesch, 5135 Long Lake Road, was against the proposal. Donald Sandstrom,
5130 Greenwood, stated that he wanted a stable neighborhood and he questioned
the transients this project would bring in. Mr. Kobe, Brighton Lane, against
the proposal.
Milt Stole, Chairman of the Planning Commission, stated that the developers
have a right to propose a development such as this. Mr. Rosenbush, 5065
Rainbow Lane, would like the area to stay residential. John Robertus, said
he was opposed to the proposal. He stated the Brighton apartments were
ghettos. Ernest Johnson, Red Oak Drive, wants a study made and wants all
construction stopped on apartments until such a study is made. Mrs. Ralph
Kieffer, 5180 Bona Road, against the proposal.
Milt Stole stated the area North of County Road H2 was presently zoned light
industrial. Harold Hjelle, 5161 Red Oak Drive, said zoning is actually R3
North of H2 and it would provide an adequate buffer to the I -1 zoning to the
North. He was against the proposal.
Mayor Rustad stated he would like a show of hands of those against the proposal.
Approximately 200 persons raised their hands. Mayor Rustad asked for a show of
hands for those for the proposal. Approximately five people raised their hands.
David Mueller, 5175 Red Oak Drive, then proceeded to explain that in his opinion
a comprdmise of some sort could be reached. He was opposed to the development
but he felt that they did have a legitimate right to petition for the development
and that he felt that he would not be opposed to the proposal if it was resubmitted
as long as some provisions for additional single family residences would be included.
He then proceeded to give a short history of the community and its development.
He stated previously farmers were against having their lots divided into
residential property, before that probably the Indians were opposed to the
farmers.
