Mr. Copeland stated that this was good planning, health and welfare and that
he had not heard any arguement against the proposal which stated that either
the health or welfare of the community would be impaired by this proposal. He
said he was willing to make a compromise. He requested a continuation of two
weeks. Residents would like a decision tonight.
Another resident asked Mr. Copeland where he lives and if there were any
apartments near him. Mr. Copeland said no, there are no apartments near
him.
John Robertus would like a vote. Mayor Rustad ruled him out of order.
Mrs. Walter Kastner, 5066 Longview Drive, stated that there was a school
bus problem. That since all children in a nine block area would have to
walk to school the high traffic flow may cause problems in the safety of
children.
Mr. Chervany asked the Council to take a look at the whole village. Mr.
Hjelle stated that a new plan was needed. Henry Dyslin, Brighton Lane,
stated he had bought his property knowing it was Rl. He is against the
proposal. Mr. Carlson, 5059 Greenwood Drive, is also against the proposal.

Mr. Charles Larson, developer, then proceeded to present a proposal for the
area East of Long Lake Road and West of Irondale. Lorraine Merker, Irondale
Road, was against the proposal. Henry Dyslin stated the land was low.
Curtis Johnson desired information on how many buildings. Developer said
as many as the ordinance permits. Johnson said he was opposed, not enough
information. Ada Lawrence, 5260 Long Lake Road, was against the proposal.
John Robertus also against this proposal.
Milt Stole then proceeded to explain our zoning ordinance and lot requirements.
He again stated that anyone has a right to petition and be heard. Mr. Kobe
requested information on who recommended the hearing. Mayor Rustad stated
it was recommended by the Planning Commission. Mayor Rustad called for a
vote on the rezoning.
Robert Eigenheer was for the rezoning. He stated that as developers it
was their duty to promote land and if it wasn't for developers none of the
people would be out here today.
Paul Pasch of Rainbow Lane requested information on why you can't build a
home on peat. Milt Stole explained.
Mayor Rustad stated that in his estimation the hearing was a success and that
he felt there was a fine group of individuals present. He then closed the
hearing and asked for comments from the Council.
Councilman Hodges stated that we have had a lot of midnight meetings setting
up ordinances and at this time he would recommend denial. Councilman Blanchard
stated he was all for the proposal but he seconded the motion to deny.
Councilman Johnson stated that all the land there was not suitable for single
family residences. He would like to see something other than apartments or
in addition to apartments constructed in that area unsuitable for single
family residences. Density would increase and in his estimation this is
the problem as the residents see it at the present time.
