Clerk Zylla was authorized to attend on the Council's behalf. A resident, Richard Hedin, requested action on a variance for a 1,082 square foot garage. Application was made the day following the Planning Commission meeting and Mr. Hedin was referred to the Planning Commission meeting of next month. Councilman Malvin's Report Councilman Malvin reported that since the first of June $7,222.25 in building permit fees was received. Councilman Hodges' Report Councilman Hodges stated that he had attended the Civil Defense Meeting on the shelter plan for the Twin Cities area which the Mayor had announced at the June 9th meeting. A formal civil defense plan is to be developed in the next three months. It also was announced that the Civil Defense truck would be stored and used by Ramsey County. Councilman Blanchard's Report MSP (Blanchard /Rustad) To hire Gregory Beck, 6928 Pleasantview Drive, for part time employment in the maintenance department through August 29th at a salary of $500.00 per month. Councilman Blanchard also noted that we have had some trouble with the plastic sewer pipe on Silver Lake Road and the Engineer was asked to check the situation. Some discussion followed on the sewer construction work which was done on the 8400 block of Groveland Road. The contractor excavated the major portion of the street to connect the new homes which were built in the area. Attorney Meyers was authorized to amend our ordinance so that the contractors would post a preformance bond and repairs would be made by the contractor himself.
