Highway 10 with the name of City of Mounds View with a space for upcoming
events or activities to be listed.
Mayor Johnson asked how large a fund they are requesting.
Mr. Ziebarth said $25 to $50 to be used for communciations expressly postage.
Attorney Meyers suggested a Resolution be drawn for this purpose. Mayor
Johnson directed Attorney Meyers to prepare the Resolution.
Mr. Mike Gupto, 20408 Xavis Street N. W., Anoka, requested a permit to sell
beer and concession at a softball tournament they are holding July 19 and
20 at the city hall field.
Mayor Johnson explained that in the past, organizations such as Jaycees and Lions
have applied for similar permits and were granted permits usually without fees
because they are community organizations and profits go back into the community.
He asked what organization they were with.
Mr. Gupto said they were sponsored by White Tail Inn and they belonged to
a Mounds View softball league.
Councilman Baumgartner asked what the proceeds would be used for. Mr. Gupto
indicated that it would be used for team expenses.
Council refused the request for permit to sell beer and concessions.
Warren Johnson, 7710 Greenwood Drive, asked Council to close the Mounds View
Square shopping center until a solution for the water problem could be
derived and he reported rain gauge readings obtained from the weather bureau
comparing them with the capacity of the holding pond system to hold 50 year
floods.
Mayor Johnson asked Administrator Achen if Rice Creek Watershed indicated that
the shopping center has not been designed as intended. Administrator Achen
said they had not been asked that question directly. They have not indicated
that the developer has not done what they desired. Mayor Johnson inquired
if the file indicated that the project is not designed to take a 50 year
rain.
Mr. Bock, 7760 Greenwood Drive, hopes Council will help find an answer to
the water problem or residents would be forced to take legal action.
Nyle Rolfer, 7945 Long Lake Road, said he is experiencing two kinds of water
problems. In addition to water in his basement, he has very brown water
coming through his pipes. He has had this problem for 4 to 5 years. He
has called several times and City replied that it is due to chlorine.
Mayor Johnson replied about three years ago State inspectors came out and
said the chlorine content of the water was not high enough. More chlorine
was added and a few weeks after we received a rash of calls. Several engineers
were consulted enabling the City to lower it somewhat and regular flushing pro-
grams were started. Complaints have been minimal since that time.
Mr. Casey, 7750 Greenwood, did not feet it would be advisable to flush
the hydrants with the water situation the way it is.
