It is to his advantage that he owned the property for 30 years.
John Brown, 7630 Greenfield, stated that there are too many people
living in the small area now.
Mr. Gustafson stated that the people who own the homes on Greenfield
have already put a fence up and the whole area is separated.
We would probably put trees in there. A duplex is no bigger than a
single family home. We would want more elderly people in there. We
need a place for them that is close to the shopping center, etc.
Mrs. McGuire stated that she opposes this because she has seen what
has happened with the apartment buildings across the street. On one
bus pickup I have seen 22 children and we have had problems. I have
to believe that this has something to do with the apartment dwellings.
I hesitate to believe that if you put up a double bungalow it will be
only for older people.
Diane Schwartz stated that children wait in her yard for the bus stop
and she is continually out there policing it.
Mrs. McGuire stated that you don't get this in private dwellings as
everyone knows everyone else.
Mr. McGuire said that most older people have their own homes. It is
not feasible that older people will move in there.
Mr. Brown stated that he did not want to discriminate as to who is
renting the building. They just want to be sure that the rest of the
homes are not devalued and don't overcrowd the block.
Mr. Gustafson stated that if we built single family homes, according
to the ordinance we can put one on each lot. If we put in single
family 4 bedroom homes, how many children do you have? In the bungalow
you would have less children. The children would probably be too small
to go to school.
Acting Mayor Hodges asked the Council for their opinions:
Councilman Pickar: The tough thing is the people who have lived there
a long time. I am opposed to it unless something could be worked
out that would be acceptable to the home owners.
Councilman Shelquist stated that he felt that you could not put in
single family residences and isolate them by putting in additional
multiple dwellings. Mr. Moss had a good idea in developing those
three lots in single family dwellings. I would vote to deny the R -2.
