that the walls of the building would act as a
sound barrier, as well as the fence that would
be constructed. He also explained that the
fence would be constructed so that 2 or 3 addi-
tional feet could be added if noise was found
to be a problem. Mr. Butler gave a presentation
using charts to show common noise levels and
what is anticipated from the development. He
summarized by saying that Tyson's wants to be
a good corporate neighbor.
Steve Weiss, 2822 Dickens Lane, stated he was a
resident of the trailer park and worked second
shift and didn't want to be woken up during the
day with the noise of the trucks. He added that
he felt a sound barrier wall would devalue his
property.
Candy Duchein, 2232 Dickens Lane, stated that
they already have a noise problem from another
trucking company across the street from the
proposed development. She also stated she
was concerned with the childrens safety as
they played in the area. Mr. Butler pointed
out that the wall would serve as a protective
carrier also, to keep the children off the
trucking property.
Patricia Magnuson, 2228 Dickens Lane, stated
she had lived at the trailer park for seven
years and did not want the development as
she felt it would provide a noise problem.
Mayor McCarty closed the public hearing and
reopened the regular meeting at 9:15 PM,
Councilmember Doty asked if refrigeration
units would be used, and what their approxi-
mate number would be. Mr. Tyson replied
that all their units were refrigeration units
and that they would all be in the yard only
once a week, usually on Saturday. He added
that the units are not started up until they
are fully loaded and the driver is ready to
pull out.
Councilmember Forslund stated that she was
concerned about the noise levels and quoted
from a letter from the Minnesota Pollution
Control Agency, dated May 28, 1981.
ouncilmember Hodges stated that he felt the
wall would be helpful as a sound barrier and
that he did not feel the refrigeration trucks
would create much noise.
