OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Arbor Day was first observed in 1872 with the planting of more than a
million trees in Nebraska and is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and
WHEREAS, the City of Mounds View has been recognized for 30 consecutive years as
a Tree City USA Community by the National Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment
to urban forestry; and
WHEREAS, trees in our city beautify our surroundings, increase property values, shade
our parks and residences, reduce storm water runoff, reduce energy use, enhance the
economic vitality of business areas and promote healthier communities; and
WHEREAS, the City will be planting shade trees in Silver View Park with members of
the Mounds View Lions Club on April 25th, 2012.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joe Flaherty, Mayor of the City of Mounds View, do hereby
proclaim Wednesday, April 25th, 2012 as
"ARBOR DAY"
in the City of Mounds View, and I urge all citizens to celebrate Arbor Day and to support
efforts to protect our trees and woodlands; and
FURTHER, I urge all citizens to plant trees to promote the well-being of this and future
generations.
